Hands on learning was what this trip was all about. It’s a tough job, but someone has to do it! After 20 years of leading groups to Southern Africa Larry and I finally had a chance to experience the Wilderness Safari camps. Thirsty for as much information as we could get in the shortest amount of time, we committed to staying at 11 different properties in 15 nights. We visited 5 additional camps that we did not overnight in, for a total of 16 camps. It was fast and furious and not for amateur safari goers. To get from one camp to the other we traveled by light aircraft and lived out of our duffle bags. The maximum weight per person including hand luggage is 20 Kilo or 44 pounds.
Here is the list of camps we visited:
Duma Tau Camp
Kings Pool Camp
Olive Grove Guesthouse
Serra Cafema Camp
The Olive Exclusive
Toka Leya Camp
Vumbura Plains Camp
Xigera Tented Camp
Air travel: Air France through Paris was our international carrier and South African Airways brought us from Johannesburg to Windhoek and from Livingstone back to Johannesburg for our return flight home. Internal flights were all Cessna’s in various sizes.
Our final take-away was that we STILL LOVE Southern Africa and we feel even more confident in calling ourselves Botswana experts. My next goal is to learn to speak Setswana.
